Super Heroes

When my brother was young, he was all about super heroes. He played his little heart out pretending to be a variety of heroes, and he never tired of pretending to save the world. I guess there is something special about having the power to change the world, and to have powers that no one else has. Though little boys seem to me more into super heroes than girls, there are girls who love to play that they have super powers too. They may like the girl heroes they have seen on shows, or they may just create their own.

Most of the super heroes that my brother loved when he was a child are still around. The classics like Superman and Spiderman may be around forever. They are great stories because while they have super powers, they are very human as well. If there were super heroes that had no weaknesses, they wouldn’t be something that anyone could identify with. Everyone has a super power, but we also have our weaknesses. A good hero is human as well as special.

The best thing about playing super heroes is that you don’t need much more than your imagination to play. All you need for the most part is a blanket that can double as a cape so you can soar through the air. My brother had one blanket that he always used as his cape, and that blanket was worn down to almost nothing when he finally outgrew his need to be super heroes. The best thing is watching his daughter run around with a cape around her neck in the same matter, pretending to save the world.

If your children love to play super heroes, they can use the blanket, or you can buy them dress up costumes. If you don’t like the prices you see in the store, you can wait until Halloween to get the ones you want for a much better price. If you wait until after Halloween to get your super heroes, you can usually get them as a huge discount. Get more than one, and watch your children to mix and match to create their very own brand of super hero. This is one great way to allow their imagination to grow, and to help them build their own identity. If they identify with anyone, wouldn’t you want it to be with a super hero anyway?

Toys For Christmas

There are some things that do not change from generation to generation. These are the things that fond memories are made from. There are also the things that we want to do differently than our parents did with us. The things that we want to do differently probably are those that have created hurtful memories for us. We all had good and bad experiences in childhood, the key is to be able to move on from our past and create happier memories for our adult years.

One of the experiences that may have caused either good or bad memories is the toys for Christmas that we received. For me I have both kinds of memories that I think about when I reminisce about the toys for Christmas I received over the years. When I was seven years old I wanted a Barbie doll. The dolls had come on to the market the same year that I was born and my name is Barb. When I was younger everyone called me Barbie. So many of my friends owned Barbie dolls and I thought I should have one. My parents did not have much money so my mother did a great deal of shopping in discount stores. She was the queen of off brand merchandize. That year for Christmas when I opened my present I found that I did receive a doll. It was the same size as a Barbie doll; however it was a Vivian doll. This was the cheaper off brand version. The Barbie doll clothes fit the doll. The difference was that the Vivian doll did not have the same feet so the high heeled Barbie doll shoes did not fit. Also the face looked different. I was very disappointed with the doll. I did not think that the couple of dollars that mom saved was worth it. I do not remember any other toys for Christmas from that year.

I think my mother realized from that experience that cheaper is not always better. I never did enjoy playing with that doll. From that time on it seemed that we received brand name items for our toys for Christmas. Now that I am a parent I make sure that my children have fond memories of the holidays. They do not get everything that they put on their lists because moderation is a lesson I want them to learn, but the things that they do receive are high quality and specifically what they ask for. I am sure there are things that they will do differently when they parent their children, but hopefully the hurtful memories they have from childhood will be few.

Unique Wedding Rings

You and your fiancée are two special individuals who have distinctive personalities. Why choose an ordinary wedding band set for your unusual relationship? You have an opportunity to show off your individual style by choosing unique wedding rings to represent your exceptional union.

The first idea that pops into mind in the quest for the right unusual bridal ring set is the custom made unique wedding rings. These items are ideal because you have a hand in the creation of you very special icons of your union. There are many jewelers that will love to work with you on your custom made engagement ring endeavor.

You can also opt to pick and choose your deigns as you custom make your own unique wedding rings through an online site. This process is so fun and you have a lot of options in precious metals, settings and stones. The custom made rings are wonderful choices for anyone who wants something inimitable for their bands.

Choosing this route is a wonderful option but the custom made engagement ring isn’t for everyone. Some couples want to involve a sense of history and tradition in their bridal band sets. There are other options to consider when deciding which unique wedding rings will work for you as a couple.

Antique bridal ring sets are fantastic options for the couple that wants to make a wonderful timeless symbol out of their unique wedding rings. This option is terrific because you can opt for very pricy pieces that serve as sound investments in your future. You can also choose less expensive antique wedding band sets that have all of the charm and beauty of their counterparts.

I love the symbolism associated with choosing this type of unique wedding bands for a union. There is something very appealing about the timeless quality of the antique rings and the notion of how long they have existed as well as how long they will exist in the future.

Some couples may already have heirloom bridal ring sets that were handed down from one generation to another. This is a lovely choice but you do want to put a spin on the heirloom jewelry to make it truly your own. You can transform your ancestor’s gems into stunning unique wedding rings that are custom made to reflect your matchless personalities.

The best approach to getting more ideas for unique wedding rings is to start shopping around. You may find something distinctive enough for your irreplaceable union in less time that you think.

Wall Paper Borders

Wall paper has always had a strange effect on my eyes. I am sure that I'm not the only one who has felt this way. At first, the new designs are pleasant. You can stare at them for hours, in fact. Every time you looked at the wall, instead of a blank and boring canvas, there is a soothing repeated design. Maybe it is flowers, seashells, stars, or something else entirely. Whatever it is, it makes you feel safe and comfortable. You can look at it and look at it, and it is always the same. Soon, however, it becomes less pleasant. After a while, wallpaper starts to drive me crazy with its uniformity.

Wall paper borders, the solution to this problem, didn't occur to me until one of my children had an accident. It involved grubby hands, paint, and the wall. Needless to say, it was not pleasant. I did not have the time to put up new wallpaper for a while, so it just had to stay there. But I noticed that with the smudge on the wall, the wallpaper wasn't so irritatingly uniform. That is when I realized that a wall paper border would lighten my mood. Soon, I was putting up wall paper borders in every room in the house.

I even put my son's desire to smudge the walls to work in designing one of the wall paper borders. I made my own wall paper border out of butcher block paper. He could do anything he wanted to it. He could draw on it, color it, smear paint on it, put dirt it on it – I didn't care. As long as he left the wall alone, the wall paper borders in his room could look any way that he wanted. This was a great compromise. It let him express himself in his bedroom décor while allowing me to have a house that looked reasonable. All in all, it was a good deal for everyone.

My favorite wall paper borders, however, were a bit more refined. I loved my sons drawings, but I loved the sea shell wall paper borders in my bedroom even more. You see, I have always been a big fan of the sea. Having nautical wallpaper would be a little tacky. It seems over the top. I like my wallpaper to be understated. But seashell wall paper borders gave me just the right touch of what I was looking for.

Web Based Conferencing

I was a little bit apprehensive about first installing web based conferencing. It wasn't that it was prohibitively expensive or that I didn't think that we could use it, but I was worried about becoming too dependent on the new gadget. You see, we have gotten by without ever having a web based conference for years. As a matter of fact, we had few conference calls at all. I had seen businesses become completely dependent on web based conferencing systems, systems that were complex and sometimes failed. Many of these companies did perfectly well without the technology for a while, but once they got it, they couldn't do without it. I was afraid that if our Web conferencing software went off-line, we would be paralyzed.

Fortunately, we have a top-notch guy in IT. He assured me that the web based video conferencing program that we were using was extremely reliable, and that he would personally take responsibility for ensuring that it worked all the time. That is why I hired him – that willingness to step up to the plate and go the extra mile to make sure that things get done. Although it took a while to set up the web based conferencing software, once he did we were all eager to try it. We set up an experimental meeting with all of the various regional offices. We had a new sales policy and, rather than sending out an e-mail about it, we allowed our sales expert to give a lecture on it.

I was surprised by how much more effective it was. It is no secret that half of the people in the company never read the sales e-mails at all. They figure that they know how to do their jobs well enough without the new jargon and techniques. Once they were actually forced to sit and listen to it, however, I could tell that they were tuning in and picking up some useful tips. They asked intelligent questions that proved that they were listening, and helped illuminate the lesson further.

Since then, we have been using the web based conferencing on a weekly basis. Most of our most important communication still take place over e-mail or in person, but slowly web-based video conferencing is becoming a bigger and bigger part of our company. It allows us to check in on each other more thoroughly and communicate more efficiently, things that can only strengthen the company.
